A major bridge located just blocks from the heart of Minneapolis collapsed during bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic Wednesday evening. Interstate 35W was an eight-lane bridge built over 40-years ago and recently received a "structurally deficient" rating, according to reports.

Two lanes in each direction were closed due to construction when the bridge collapsed, and 18 construction workers fell when the bridge gave way. "More than 60 people were injured and as many as 50 vehicles were in the river, many of their occupants having scrambled to shore. The collapse did not appear to be terrorism-related."

Authorities are currently confirming four deaths, but believe that more deaths are expected as recovery efforts continue throughout the day. More than 20 families have loved ones that have not been located, and Minneapolis Fire Chief Jim Clack thinks there are probably several vehicles in the river that cannot be seen. My thoughts are with those who experienced this tragedy yesterday, their families, and the entire Minnesota community.
