Police in Hanahan, South Carolina found 2 dead toddlers Monday night after responding to a disturbance call. Their mother is now facing criminal charges. 27-year-old Semetta Heyward has been charged with two counts of homicide by child abuse by Hanahan police.

Police responded to a disturbance call and found Heyward yelling and crying, "Oh, my babies," according to an incident report. Authorities found the two children, ages 1 and 4, under the sink and wrapped in garbage bags. Heyward was taken to the hospital and has yet to speak with police, following the advice of her attorney. Heyward's lawyer wants to know more about the case before asking for a bail hearing.

A criminal investigation into exactly when and where the children died is being conducting by Hanahan officials. The Berkeley County Coroner said it would be at least two weeks before more details are available. According to authorities, the children were left inside Heyward's car Sunday while she was at work. Until the autopsies and investigation are complete, the place of death is unknown. My heart goes out to the two children, their families, and the Hanahan community.
