Today, January 16, 2007, a CSX train derailed in Bullitt County, Kentucky, causing a chemical fire. As a result of the chemical fire, authorities have ordered some residents to evacuate and has instructed almost an entire county to remain indoors with their doors and windows shut until further notice. This was the second train accident in two days in Kentucky and reminiscent of the January 6, 2005 Graniteville train derailment that resulted in several deaths and serious personal injuries.

Individuals evacuated or required to shelter in place may have a legal claim. With respect to the Graniteville derailment, individuals who were evacuated were beneficiaries of a class action settlement during the summer and fall of 2005. Strom Law Firm, LLC was instrumental in the negotiation and implementation of the Graniteville settlement.
